Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 2, 2026
1. Introduction
SpeakUp (“we”, “us”) helps you practice speaking with AI feedback. This policy explains what we collect through tryspeakup.ai and the SpeakUp application, how we use it, and the choices you have. Because our product analyzes your voice, we hold ourselves to a simple standard: your recordings exist to coach you — not to be sold, mined, or used to train AI models.
2. Information we collect
- Account information — name, email address, and password or OAuth identity when you sign up.
- Practice content — audio (and, if you enable camera, video) recordings of your practice sessions, transcripts generated from them, speaking metrics (pace, filler words, clarity, structure), templates you create, and AI feedback produced for you. Recordings are captured only when you start a session — never in the background.
- Progress data — streaks, goals, session counts, and scores that power your dashboards.
- Billing data — subscription status and payment records handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Technical data — IP address, browser and device information, and usage events collected via server logs, cookies, and analytics (see section 7).
3. How we use your information
- to provide the Service: transcribe sessions, compute metrics, generate coaching feedback, and track your progress;
- to process payments and manage subscriptions;
- to operate, secure, and improve the Service, including debugging, abuse prevention, and aggregate (de-identified) product analytics;
- to communicate with you about your account, streak reminders and weekly reports (which you control in preferences), and important changes;
- to comply with law and enforce our terms.
We do not use your identifiable recordings or transcripts to train AI models, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Service providers
We share data with a small set of processors, each bound by contract to use it only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and storage for your account and session data;
- Deepgram — speech-to-text processing of session audio;
- OpenAI — generation of coaching feedback from transcripts and metrics;
- Stripe — payment processing;
- Vercel — application hosting and web analytics;
- Canny — optional product-feedback board, if you use it.
Your data is stored and processed in the United States.
5. When we disclose information
Beyond the providers above, we disclose personal information only: to comply with legal process; to enforce our Terms of Service; to protect the rights, safety, or property of SpeakUp or others; or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy continues to apply until changed). Aggregated, de-identified statistics that cannot identify you may be used freely — for example, “average filler-word reduction across users.”
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. Session recordings are stored only if you choose to save them. You can delete your entire account at any time — on the web from Settings → Danger zone, and in the mobile app from Account → Danger zone. Deleting your account immediately removes your recordings, transcripts, sessions, and personal data from production systems, and they roll out of routine backups within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal, billing, or security purposes. Audio sent for transcription is processed transiently and not retained by us beyond producing your transcript and metrics.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, role-based access controls, row-level security on user data, and least-privilege access for our team. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; if a breach affects your personal data we will notify you as required by law.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (including under the CCPA and GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. You can do most of this directly in the app (account settings, session deletion); for anything else, email support@tryspeakup.ai and we will respond within 45 days. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA. EU/ UK residents: our legal bases are contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security, improvement), and consent (optional communications), and you may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. Users under 18 need parental consent as described in our Terms.
11. Third-party links
This policy covers only SpeakUp. Linked third-party sites have their own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy and will post changes here with a new effective date. For material changes we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
